We stayed at Port Albert for two nights as a stop over and have a little time out. There are toilets, but no dump station. There is a store at the beginning of the road (Wharf Rd) leading down to the parking area.
Free to stay for self-contained vehicles/caravans.
Nice area to relax, but really not a lot to do here, although people have said the there is good fishing off the end of the jetty.
Port Albert was a centre for non-conformists church settlement sponsored by the Albertland Special Settlement Association which was set up in Birmingham in 1861.
In October 1862 the sailing vessels Hanover and Matilda Wattenbach arrived in Auckland with the first settlers, who went by various routes to land surveyed around Arapaoa, Otamatea and Oruawharo Rivers.
More immigrants ships followed but isolation and difficulties of access hindered progress and the original plans for a township at Port Albert were thwarted.
