Kyeburn Diggings, Danseys Pass, Otago, New Zealand

Writer's picture: Nev MarkNev Mark

The gold fields in the Kyeburn area, known as the Kyeburn Diggings were well underway before the main discovery of gold at Naseby 30kms away

This area derives it’s name from the nearby Kyeburn River and early miners. To see miners digging for gold in and around the river bed was a common sight, so much so that it soon became known as “Kyeburn Diggings”.

The Wandering Kiwis found this visit a rewarding experience. The history is extremely interesting and the local people are very willing to pass on their knowledge
